For the osc on z3ta+

first one is saw 3, normal, then saw 2 +1 octave, then -1 octave.

for the -1 octave, on wave shaper, halfway lowpass it and make it have a bit of a wave curve, on the +1 octave one, high pass it halfway and self sync it a bit

Re: DIRTY BASSLINES EXCHANGE THREAD + HOW2!

Can anyone tell me how to make the bass in Morning Light by Concord Dawn? Sorry this computer is a piece of shit and doesn't load YouTube... but if you don't have the track I'm sure you can find it on there. It comes in just after 1:20.

Cheers,

Re: DIRTY BASSLINES EXCHANGE THREAD + HOW2!

its a reece with portamento from flp. this threadll basically tell you all about it, but in a nutshell,

1. 3xosc detune saw waves a few cent
2. distort, split into high and low
3. activate portamento

Re: DIRTY BASSLINES EXCHANGE THREAD + HOW2!

Could someone tell me a basic setting to make a bassline like the one in Driftwood
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dK-hnPOmhQ0&feature=related

Ive tried so many goddamm combinations of osc's but i cant get it. Im using Albino or if i have to massive.
Everything i make sounds too heavy. this bassline sound is similar to hand guestures and i cant get enough of both tracks at the moment.
I normally can figure out the bass sounds that i want but i this one has me stumped. It completly ruined my afternoon of beat making.

Re: DIRTY BASSLINES EXCHANGE THREAD + HOW2!

Get a copy of massive. Real nice synth for dirty basslines. Best thing about it is how easy it is to modulate with it. Use a Square / saw wavetable put the knob about 1 o clock just so u can hear a bit more of the saw compared to the square. Set the unision to 4 or 5 click on the pitch control to the right of that and seperate the frequencies a tiny bit. Make the osc go to the first filter all the way up so it doesnt bleed into filter 2.
Put a daft filter on it and turn cutof knob all the way down.
Click Lfo 5 i think it is and push the slider all the way to the top to make sure the sine wave is the only one selected. click the little number 5 and put it in the filter cuttof box, (The box just underneath it) Then click and drag the mouse upwards but not too high. Now as you play a note mess about or automate the rate knob on the LFO. This creates a nice wobble bass.
You can mess with any filters you want and any wave shapes to make some proper fukd up sounds.
If youve got guitar rig, you can use the bass amps and distortion from that to beef up a sound.
When using distortion tho i find its always best to turn it all the way up and then down till i find the spot thats just right for it.

You can do this with any synth actually. As long as you put it on a mixer track. Set up fruity lowpass filter, right click the cutof knob and select create automation clip, then you can edit the filter sweeps in the playlist to create some nice sounds. Alternatively you can open the automation clip properties in the sampler and select the lfo box then set the desired shape and rate for your lfo.
At the end add some distortion plugins for extra power.

Something i find really important also when making bass. You can make a clone of the synth but route it to a seperate mixer track. then you can eq all the low end out of the bass your using and distort it / compress it seperate to the other one.
While eqing out all of the highs on the first one. play them together and they will sound real good. Splitting the frequencies helps it to add depth and to breath ive been told.

Ive tried cubase and reason and logic and to be honest fruity studio 9 is the most inexpensive, Most stable and most versatile piece of music creation software out. Nothing comes close. I love this program loll

Re: DIRTY BASSLINES EXCHANGE THREAD + HOW2!

Dunno why im attempting to answer this but i felt bad as no1 replied to you, an i think its plainly cause its a noise that could be made with anything its hard to pinpoint the exact wave/combinations etc, hope this helps:

Sounds like the sub is bitcrushed slightly so it follows the stabz, which are just really tiny hits of a bassline** played quite low on the piano roll might even be chord stabz of a bass, with a very sharp low pass filter envelope on em, i think its the distortion thats makin these, tbh its too sick for my knowledge to comprehend, try look at it as simply as poss? if that helps? the other basslines/edits are possibly saw waves detuned distorted an fitered then put bak through more distortion an filtering with different layers etc (again far past my knowledge)
Write the notes in and do the processing then just put different sounds thru wat youve done till it comes close? you'll never get that exact sound but you might come across summin better? or worse......lol

**the wave could be anything might not even be a wave of bass could be a percussion hit or somethin like that?

Re: DIRTY BASSLINES EXCHANGE THREAD + HOW2!

Oh,what I ment to say was that I made a shitty bass sound. Here, you can have it.Oh well, there's nobody here willing to share some of the 'filthy bass production knowledge' with me?
P.S.:If anyone is interested in some shitty massive basses...just give me a PM.

Most of borgores sounds are bitcrushed and fairly easy to recreate,
-in massive start a new sound
-add 2 oscs one a screamer and one a stonium wave and set the wave table to slightly over half on both
-detune one osc to -12
-im gonna presume you know how to make a wobble... so set up your wobble using a scream filter.

then this is where we bitcrush. dont use the bitcrusher within massive instead use an plugin one, a good free one is CMT Bitcrusher which you can download for free if you google hard enough, then set the bitcrusher as an insert on your track and play around with the downsample amount and you should have a basic gorestep sound, obviously you can alter the sound loads in massive but thats a basic for you. unfortunatly i have no idea about datsik sounds... but would love someone to help...

Agreed! dnbforum > dubstepforum

plus, here it's much easier to navigate and find what you're looking for.

I found an rather nice explanation on that here:

Re: DIRTY BASSLINES EXCHANGE THREAD + HOW2!

I have some questions about some Drum and Bass sounds and the equipment used to create these sounds.
I have some knowledge of digital equiptment.. Mainly i understand how midi controlers can be used with computers and software ect...... I also am getting a roland sp404sx sampling workstation.. I know a little about samples and sequencers ect.. I Understand how Turntable mixing is done some what....

Here is my question..
In drum and bass music... how are the deep long sworping bass lines created... What equiptment is first used to Map out these bass lines.... I want to be able to use these sounds in other types of music in a real time situation on stage.... sort of Like how you can create a drum kit on mpc pads or sampler pads.... I want to create my own "Swarping bass notes" in a Sampler.to be used in real time.. But i dont want to sample other artists bass sounds... I want to create my own...
I need to know where the Bass comes from.... haha
can anyone help me with some direction in good software or hardware for this
