Hey guys, I'm new on these forums, but I just wanted to leave a message on this thread saying thanks to everyone who contributed, I found pretty much every post on this thing really usefull.
So thanks guys.
To add a bit, get 3x osc, 2 sqaure waves, one 1 cent lower than the other and invert the lower one. Distort it, add a tube and all then play a low note then
Ill post a sample of my reece bass tommorrow but i tend to work in reason because my computers shit (savin 4 a new one and cubase)
but i rekon that what ever i do in reason should be fairly straight forward in massive or any otehr device so hear it goes.
initiate the patch in thor make three or two oscillators that are all active and detune two of them in oppisite direction from the centre so for me i have one at plus 18 and one minus 18. on the third osc i tune it the same but eitehr an octave up or down. this covers more of a spectrum of the eq range. after that ajust the envelopes so that it is fully sustaining. no attack or res but full on the decay and sustain. this makes it an open reece. add a notch filter for a lower frequency about 350-400 hertz with about 10 to on the resolution nob. and if there is a bias nob between HP and LP filtering have that nearer the low pass. this osc needs to have a fair amount of drive this is where the bass is.
at this point apply an LFO to the filter frequency and adjust the input to about half. this will give it a slight wobble.
add another notch filter biased to a high pass filter at about 1.000-1.200 hertz this gives a slight mid drop which can be good depending on what kind of sound you rae going for.
with this write a lower octave long continuos note in your sequencer and listen. it will not sound much by this point. apply a tube or warm distortion with slight compression, aand believe me with reeces lighter overdriven sounds you will get 10 times more impact. DO NOT LET THE DISTORTION EFFECT THE EQ
after this apply an eq insert or vst and minus around 9 db at 600 hertz and apply positive 9db at 1000 hertz this should look like a sine wave on your eq
add unison or chorus to taste but do not use it 2 wet or it takes the impact out.
add a stereo imager that makes all the bass mono and the highs mono with the crossover frequency on about the middle
in some cases i will apply an automated band bass filter which really gives some kik to the reece or in other cases i might re distort the reece later down the line to give it more life this is usuallt to the end od the line
i find that the trick is to use a seperate synth for the reece and cut it off around 100 hertz and let the sub bass deal with the bottom low end otehrwise the reece does not sound as tight and becomes more muddy and you have no room in your mix, and also try adding comb filters or ladder filters use only little amounts of drive behind them creates sum big impact.
ill pm anyone my sounds or print screens would be easier just pm me and ill send them over msn because i cannot be bothered with download thing majigs
sorry bout spellin and stuff but i got work in 4 hours and its 1-30
hope it helped

exact how to with pictures coming up. if you want it faster and more detailed, pressure me haha
For the osc on z3ta+
first one is saw 3, normal, then saw 2 +1 octave, then -1 octave.
for the -1 octave, on wave shaper, halfway lowpass it and make it have a bit of a wave curve, on the +1 octave one, high pass it halfway and self sync it a bit
Greetings feloow dnb nuttahs :P
I'll be really nice,
Linked below is a RAR file containing no less than 15 custom dirty basses. All are my own creation
NI Massive is required.
Check out my tunes while your at it :P
I have hundreds more bass patches for massive / circle / surge (my 3 favourite synths)
Post links to what you've made using them... and a thanks would be nice if you do use them
Can anyone tell me how to make the bass in Morning Light by Concord Dawn? Sorry this computer is a piece of shit and doesn't load YouTube... but if you don't have the track I'm sure you can find it on there. It comes in just after 1:20.
its a reece with portamento from flp. this threadll basically tell you all about it, but in a nutshell,
1. 3xosc detune saw waves a few cent
2. distort, split into high and low
3. activate portamento
