What actually is Serato?!

Probably a very noob question i know..

Hearing alot about it atm and it seems to have just popped up from no where... i actually have no idea what it is? lol.. Guessing it is something computer based though right?

in a short explination... You have your laptop linked up to your mixer, an you have two control vinyls which control the mp3's on your laptop as if it was on the vinyl, i.e you can cue up, scratch, rewind etc... like you would with a normal vinyl.

i think we've paid too much attention to this, but if we must, then forums are for discussing the use of serato, troubleshooting etc, rather than what is it to begin with.
