Ive been practicing on some mates decks for a while, Love it. I really want somethin off my own now and i gathered £300 to spend but i need everythin for that. Decks, mixer and cables. Was thinking about 2nd hand but it all seens to be too expensive.
Any help would be much appriciated.
Thanks

hmm.. can you stretch it to 400? i got some second hand technic 1210's and a reasonable mixer for 400. if you get seriously into it you're going to end up getting technics anyway so i advise making the leap first

I got my first set up for £300 dude, it can be done...

Although as you improve you'll realise that you need to upgrade your shit as it's not cutting the mustard, and you won't be able to get fuck all second hand for your gear as it's not quality stuff so hold no value at all...

If you really can't scrape together more (I couldn't when I started) then just do a bit of shopping round. Most specialist DJ stores will have a full package for that amount, however they tend to keep their prices low by giving you a sub standard mixer that will be useless in a year...

You're not gonna get technics and a mixer and everything else for that kind of money, not even second hand (well, very unlikely anyway) so I'd reccomend a set of turntables such as like Numarks - they're nothing like as good as technics but much cheaper and good enough to learn on - Just make sure they are direct drive.

Mixers wise, I'd reccomend swapping the shit one the store will have in their package (Stay well clear of Behringer, Citronic, and I'd even not bother with Numark, Gemini or Kam as far as mixers are concerned) for something like a Vestax PMC 06 - they're really not that much more than the shit marques I've mentioned but will be sturdy as hell and last a looooong time.

With mixers, you'll see a lot of them have loads of features (effects, kill switches, filters etc) but cost very little, that's because the build quality and components used are very poor and that's why they wont last. You won't even need all of those features. Go for the quality brand with less features and save yourself having to buy a new mixer in a year when the shit kill switch gets stuck at "on" in a years time...

was guina say the same thing. u can pick up a 2nd hand set of technics for around £300-400 with mixer, otherwise ure guna buy cheaper decks and will wana get 1210s as soon as u can.

personally i'd try and save some cash up first, keep practising on your mates deck for the meantime cos you'll just end up losing a shit load of money at the end of the day.

£300 New Decks now
£100-150 Second hand value
£400-500 for Technics
£250+ You'll have to save again
or
£100 to save up now and you get the nuts.

Thats how i see it anyway

Secondhand all the way! i got my stanton 150's for under £150 vestax 2 channel mixer £40 it can be done look on ebay secondhand papers gumtree etc dont get the basics cause if ur into it u wil buy better and u wont get jack for the other ones!

Mate it's basicly up to you you probly will end up gettin technics... but I've been djing for 2 an a half years, I got a second hand pair of numark tt1625's when I started an they are still workin fine... I've got a snapped tone arm but thats my fault lol :( I will upgrade to technics soon but they have done me good for the past 2 and a half years...

mate.... my recommendation is to just save up and get yourself technics or vestax bro.... seriously.... i went through 3 sets of decks before i landed on the mac daddy Vestax PDX2000's.... i wish i had just saved up the first time around...... i know it seems long... and i know you want to get your hands on some decks as soon as..... but trust me mate..... just stick it out and save up..... low lvl decks loose value.... so when you come to sell them.... which you will in a year or two.... they wont be worth shit...... where as.... if you got yourself some technics or vestax..... if you decide DJ'n isnt for you.... then when you come to sell them... they will still hold their value and will be able to sell for around the same price you bought them for........ and if you really get into DJ'n.... then you already have the mac daddy decks and all the money you have to spend can go on upgrading speakers, headphones, needles, etc......

Y'know what pisses me off...

Whenever someone comes on here, they say what their budget is, what equipment they want, and ask what to get...

What happens? Everyone just says "save up more money, get xxx"

What's the fucking point of them saying a budget? We all know what the best stuff out there is Technics + Pioneer/Vestax/Allen & Heath + HD25's but that's the whole point of a budget... If you're gonna suggest something that is gonna push their budget by 10% or so then I reckon that's OK... But if you're gonna suggest something that doubles or even triples their budget then what's the point?

After all if you walked into a car garage thinking about getting a 15 grand hatchback and the sales assistant told you you were better off saving for a 50 grand Merc, you'd tell your mates he was a useless piece of shit and no help...

Sorry, am in bad mood, still at work, it's 12:30...

Rant over!

Mate i'd stay away from htfr, they really crank up the prices. I got mine from decks.co.uk which turned out to be really good.

If youre looking for around £300 then you can try do this deal and upgrade the decks.

Can get:
2 x Numark TT1650 Turntable
Vestax VMC002 Mixer

for £324, or can swap the decks to 2 x Stanton :: T50 Deck for £319

Pretty good deal if you ask me.
