DSM004 - SpectraSoul - Down Town Chicago b/w The Weakness

Released: Monday 14th January

This is the 4th release from us and like all of our future releases this will be going straight to full release as we're fed up of releasing boring plain white promo's.

We hope you continue to enjoy and support what we're doing...

Spectrasoul are by now an act in little need of any introduction; from the city that spawned DJ Friction, this Brighton based duo continue to surge from strength to strength with their unique brand of deep, stripped down, moody funk. With a production ethos some would say comparable to that of the mighty Calibre, Spectrasoul's comprehensive grasp of soul sampling has been a defining characteristic since day one. Having attracted the attention of labels including Shogun, Horizons and Nu: Directions, DSM present to you our fourth label release in the form of tracks 'Down Town Chicago' and 'The Weakness'.

In a discernable change of direction from the emotive, deep sounds of their release on SGN:LTD, the A side presents a trademark incarnation of the devastatingly effective Spectrasoul formula; a bouncy track teeming with samples that work cohesively to create a deep sense of ambience, in turn narrated by a male vocal. An upbeat bassline runs underneath some playful percussion to finish setting the scene the track's title lends itself from; an accomplished track that's replete with imagery, we have a feeling you're gonna like this one. The flip represents an altogether more refined take on the Spectrasoul formula - an understated jazz piano lick works in tandem with quirky filtered bassline, carried along effortlessly by the addictive shuffle of the beats.
