Building Tension/Crescendo

Chiller mentioned it in a post earlier just thought i'd make a post about it.. what do you guys normally do to make effective tension in your builds etc.
 
Reverse cymbals are also a surefire way...
And cutting a pad sample in half at the loudest point (do a tiny fadeout at the end) and reversing it works wonders too. Make sure it's tuned though. Or not if you do that dark twisted stuff.

Moving your filter frequencies sounds pretty cheesy but it works. If you need extra punch to that drop, remove almost everything just a few ticks before the drop itself, gives a lot more power.
 
oh and almost forgot, i sometimes bounce the drop or some element from the tune (just 2-4 beats) to wav, reverse it, do a tempo delay to it and reverse again so you get that reversed delay thing and set it to the buildup.
