I just realised I used about 4 different snares in an average tune...

is this normal?? or am I being a spaz???

ta!

I use five or six different kinds of snares (plus other sounds, like white noise) to create a new snares, by filtering each snare at different points, then EQing and mashing together with compression. I use maybe three of these snares in an average tune.

Personally I think it all depends on the tune. the current tune I have has 2 snare hits, 2 snares as part of breaks, and 2 or 3 as ghost hits.

Personally I think less is more. find a decent sample and you shouldn't need to layer a gazillion different hits on top of each other just to find the correct tone.

lol i don't really use that many - i choose ones that compliment each other...usually i layer breaks (cut the highs off one and cut the lows off another) and might use another snare if needed (sometimes its not even a snare - i like layering cymbals over the snare sometimes or other metallic hits)...choose one snare that's lower and punchy and powerful and layer a higher snappy one to fill it out and you should be alright :mr_cool:
