How to get files of a macbook hard drive onto a windows PC

Hello -

I am not having any fun attempting to buy a piece of hardware capable of transferring important files off a hard drive out of a macbook laptop, onto a new windows PC.

The macbook hard drive I have in my hand, is small and has 2 columns of pins that connect into said device - then there are 4 pertruding pins next to these.
I am guessing now what to buy, will it fit? Have you done this before? surely it cant be that hard?

Im having no luck on ebay as there is never a solid piece of info, I need it to say " yes this will fit macbook hard drives ( pic of connections ) "
Not just "sata" "ide" tool ( with no pics! )
And it is mains powered.

What the helllllllll.
 
Sweet, so it really is that simple.
I am ditching the mac ( it broke ) Is it possible to click and drag my reason files, samples etc from the old drive to my new drive?

Oh and it has no power supply? does it work just via USB?!
 
Yeah, just take out the HD, chuck it in the enclosure and plug it in. After you take what you need, reformat the HD so you have a fresh new external HD.


and Yes. . . . .All the reason files will transfer just fine.

So update, got the sata drive enclosure and NO
It doesnt' work.
I cant access my files at all.
the only option i have is to convert to dynamic disk?
I have googled but found no help.
What now?
 
That doesn't make any sense. . . . . I just walked a friend of mine through the same thing 3 weeks ago and everything was fine. hmmmmm. . . . . Lemme do some checking.

It won't work like that!

Your Hard Drive that is in your Mac is formatted in Mac OS Extended (Journalled) HFS format which, if you plug into a Windows PC will not be readable.

There is a small freeware application that you can download called HFSExplorer which will read the drive. Download it here >>> http://www.catacombae.org/hfsexplorer/

Install that badboy, plug in your Mac HD using your USB SATA enclosure and open the drive. You should be able to transfer anything on the Mac HD to your Windows HD.
