Jungle/drum and bass difference?

From what I observed people hated General Levy´s behaviour more than that record.

General Levy was an already established ragga vocalist brought in by producers M-Beat to provide vocals to the track but he was ostracised by the UK jungle scene due to comments he made in an interview with The Face magazine ("I run jungle at the moment").

..that record was being played for months in raves before hand and it was going off!

This.

Early early days it was a mixture of what’s now referred to as hardcore, techno , breakbeat and piano house music , as it all started to split off in its own musical directions the harder more bass influenced tunes moved towards an era described as jungle techno which still contained 4x4 beat formations and a darker feel as seen prominently in tracks from the basement records and formation 5 camps if you want to check them out. During this period though there was some ground breaking drum and bass music being pushed and produced , for the older heads remembering the first time you heard the helicopter tune being dropped in a club was a special moment and we knew we part of a movement that was getting stronger.

Jungle was used to describe the more ragga influenced vocal tunes of the 94/95/96 period like chuck e , stamina , gangsta etc but during this period there was an element of trouble in the raves as the peace love and unity started to disappear and gang related shootings etc started taking the headlines which affected the raves, the availability of clubs , closing of clubs and reluctance of promoters to stage the nights. This is when the name drum and bass was more commonly used to reinvent itself and this has morphed over the years into the worldwide music it is known as today taking influences from every corner of the musical spectrum and world , its drum and bass and it most certainly has always been a dance music for nearly 25 years.

That's very good, thank you for all the helpful answers, so another question, what would you classify Goldie as? He's described as both jungle and drum and bass but with the descriptions I've been getting it seems that he's more jungle but I'm not sure which is why I'm asking

All is fair in love and Brostep

Ok I'm going to be perfectly honest with you. Perhaps people would take you seriously if your posts didn't end in
"All is fair in love and brostep"

Around here not even dubstep gets much respect for some reason, but brostep....well that's next level bullshit. It's just laughable and usually so are the people that listen to it.

Imagine signing up to a forum that specialised in science and your posts ended in "if there's no god how to you explain a sunrise"
It's almost the stupidest thing you could say to that audience.

Fine fine, and I apologize for the way I've been acting and I understand what you're saying so ok, I simply wish to learn more about jungle/drum and bass and while I did look up both on Google and understand that they're practically in the same boat, I wish to know the precise musical differences, and so far, everyone has given me more than enough information and for that I thank you.

I hope we can get along here

To refer to my earlier posts there is no precise difference! Goldie has been around since pretty much day dot. He made some early jungle classics and he was very much involved in what is now D&B.

You can't define one without the other really and to be fair there's a 2-3 year period of both terms being used.

Everything falls into the genre Jungle / Drum & Bass rather than splitting it all up.

And added irony that this is a DRUM AND BASS forum, you know, where you discuss things like this

All is fair in love and Brostep

Yeah, good to keep in mind this is the internet. Another great point. Let shit go bro.

^this guys a fan of Jungle and Drum and Bass. I got your fucking back bro!!! Call that shit Jungle or Drum and Bass. Were on the same team. Who gives a shit about some petty azz bullshit.

To make sense of this confusing situation, please refer to one of the causes of this confusion that Squarepusher may be going through...

Squarepusher, I've never even heard of Brostep but at least your head is screwed on straight. Hopefully more people like yourself aren't scared away from the forum.

Again that makes perfect sense so thank you, also I really like Goldie, especially his debut album Timeless, been meaning to get more albums from him because Timeless is just flawless.

Just sharing my interests my favorite Dnb producer is Netsky

If it helps you guys understand my tagline I'm using an app that lets me access various forms and happened to find this one. The app also lets me have a tagline and I chose a Skrillex song for my tagline because I thought I'd express my musical interests. Although considering everyone, or so it seems, hates Skrillex I can see why there's such animosity towards my tagline and the Brostep genre altogether.

Also, I love jungle/DnB, and whatnot, it's one of my favorite electronic genres next to industrial and so I got on this forum hoping to learn more as well as find other like minded people like myself and it seems I've found it so thank you

What do you refer to as industrial? I haven't used that word since the mid 90's when it referred to techno / gabba
Traditional industrial, as in Throbbing Gristle and SPK industrial music, the original kind that resembled Musique Concrete but was then twisted so that it sounded more musical and abrasive.

The industrial nowadays, Combichrist and KMFDM and whatnot, aka post industrial, I also enjoy but not as much as the original noisy genre that started it all.

Gabber, at least that's what I know it as, is also good, as well as speedcore, what I really love is a newer genre and the fastest genre in the world called extratone, which is a hardcore techno exceeding 1000 BPM, very cool if you ask me, I'd love to have software that exceeds 1000 BPM but unfortunately it only goes up to 400. Which is fine because I love producing DnB and experimenting with the sound.
