What makes it Drum and Bass?

Tempo/beats/mood for me tbh. Not a producer but isn't syncopation to do with irregular beats? Not very dnb (at least the danceable stuff) is it?

The simplest d'n'b pattern is syncopated, as opposed to 4x4. What is danceable for us, is not for the larger part of the population,

I have to say I think it's wrong to say tempo. A lot of these tracks in the pop chart's even tho they are around 130 bpm they are still drum & bass.

for example this is 87 bpm. sounds like drum & bass to me.

Oh so Beatport is not right now lol. This gets better.

Lets completely get off the 87 bpm then shall we. Erm lets say Sub Focus - Safe in Sound (116 BPM) drum and bass.

This comment was totally wrong.

My point is drum and bass doesn't need to be 170-190 bpm for it to sound drum & bass.

all those tunes are between 170 and 175 lol, beatport just detects them wrong, the 116 bpm thing is also probably 175, just tap it out yourself?

about syncopation, that certainly plays a big role but there are some tunes that use a 4/4 pattern so its not just that and tempo, but really I think you know its dnb when you listen to it (I think some stuff that gets classified as dnb is very far from what dnb usually sounds like, but it probably gets used for lack of better term and because of many of these producers also do dnb stuff)
