hey i know how to produce preety good but then it come to dnb i lack in the knowledge of percussion patterns.

ive only been doing hardcore 4x4 patterns and the usually clap and hi hat. but how do i make those sweet dnb snare rolls and hi hats , so it gives it motion?
 
Start with your 4x4 beat, replace the second and fourth kick with a snare, move the third kick an 8th to the right, now you have a "2 step" beat, which is the backbone of most drum & bass, a lot of dnb patterns are variations of this (y)
 
thats the only pattern i use for dnb it gets so boring. i just wanna know the percussion patterns if u know any like for example this is all i can do in my dnb.

exactly what u said exect i ad a quiet hihat every step or every other step.

but i cant figure out any other patterns.
 
That's the foundation pattern, all you have to do is create variations on that pattern, it's the fundamental building block for most types of urban music - from hip hop to garage to dnb. Just play with it, try adding new snares or new kicks, move things around - experiment.
 
well lets see patterns I've composed some dope ones and transcribed even more here's a few measures of 16 step time beatzage

1 means Program that shit in right there
0 means silence on the instrument
BD means Bass Drum
SD means Snare Drum
CH means CLosed HiHat
OH means Open HiHat
AM means Amen Sample (simple jungle/doubl-time funk drum loop)

what the hell happened to figuring things out for yourself... how do you think everyone else developed this shit...

ed rush: yo optical, i'm using this program which i got from a friend who stole it from dillinja, and i don't know how to use it but i want to make some dn'b. how do you make the beat with the dum chhh dum chh with the cymbols and such... oh, i want to make a wah wah bassline too, but farting into the mic isn't doing it, cause i get feedback...
 
thats some wicked stuff there, don't forget you can create a separate "ghost" track with lighter sound to layer above the main kick+snare. This usually makes up nice patterns as long as you have the right sounds at the right time (well programmed) going on above the main pattern.

your best bet would be to listen to alot of different dnb tunes with different drum patterns, so you can get a feel for them and get to know them this way you can make your own variations...alot of this stuff isn't as hard as many people make it out to be if you just get down to it and try stuff out...
 
I know most of you are running reason, so watch this thread and I'll send you some screen prints of some patterns that will get you moving,, ps once youve made your beat,, wack it straight into recycle and create a rex loop,, then you can start having some fun with your own creation..
 
find a good drum loop, like the amen, or somthing.
cut it into even slices on quarter notes or whatever.
then load the slices into your sampler. start hitting the keys to the beat. youl find that its hard to go wrong. :missile:
