Ive never got it. It all seems like a novelty show. Although there is undoubtably tons of skill to do it, the end result is nothing. Would never want to go out and just hear juggling etc all night. Too jarring.

The skill to me lies not on finding two tunes that go well together, but finding ones that basically make a new one altogether. Needs to be done in a subtle, classy way, or is too much tho.

    thats next level dj material.

for me its selection. knowing what to play and how long to play it for.
too many people are concerned with the whole "recorded on 23 decks - 94897 tunes in 5 mins" fuck all that. i prefer to hear some tunes actually rolled out and not 17 teases over 1 tune. if ur selection is tight and fits the atmosphere u can pull it off, play something that i actually want to listen to.

i dont really care about format/media. unless ur doing some battle shit like in that video im not watching you mix, im listening.

Zoot bunned, i feel much better I class it as an opinion as you provided no facts, just an opinion, There is no right or wrong on the subject, just peoples preference!

I respect your opinion! I will post a set up in the next week or two as im well busy atm and let you have a listen! Id like you to judge the set on what you hear! As all my skills will be utilised in my selection, my mixes and the odd bit of beat matching i have to do

I will say this!!! One thing that really does fcuk me off with laptop DJing is beat gridding tunes. If you dont beat grid right you can never get two tunes to lock!! Never had that with vinyl!

Dont get me wrong, im happy with my set up atm but when i have enough cash i will be investing in some 1210's and using timecoded vinyl! Beat matching aside nothing beats that feeling of using a set of 1210's!

THe thing is im a snob! IF i want a set up i want the best! My old set up cost me thousands! 1210's Mk3, Xone 32 mixer, Trakmaster needles, Kaos pad 2, Massive speakers all running through a technics amp! IT was class!! IT honestly crushed me when i had to sell! Thats what happens when you go raving every week and take too much sh!t! I ended up selling cos me old man had enough n kicked me out! BUt im rebuilding!! Digital was the quickest way for me to rebuild. Although i have just spent £1500 on a new mac! It was a tough choice between 1210's or a mac! I chose a mac cos i wanna produce some tunes!

I do all this for love of mixing! Ive never earned money from DJing and never want too! I do it for pure pleasure!

The whole point of these things is to make it EASIER, requiring less EFFORT, thus meaning he puts LESS EFFORT into his sets.
Don't get me wrong I'm a vinyl head through and through, but this isn't necessarily true. If you have kit that makes things easier, doing the same ammount for less effort is one way forward. The other way forward is doing MORE for the same effort, thus making a better set. Gotta give respect to DJ's actually using technology to push things forward rather than simply make life easier.

Personally I see DJing going the way of photography right now. Anyone can be a photographer with there £300 canon and a few zoom lenses, but there's still those that put the extra effort in to hone their craft and stand out from the rest. Some people looking at the better photos might not even notice it, might not know or care they're better. Those people are irrelevant. The people that know the difference, make the difference.
