heard a program on radio 4 (yeah thats right) about it, and apparently host countries just about cut even, and theres no obvious economic gain for hosting the games

So £27 million of tax payers money was spent on sir Steve Redgrave to pass a flame to some kids that are already more inspired than 95% of this countries youth because they actually participate in a sport of some kind.

I don't understand all this 'spending our taxes' argument when the whole thing brings a ridiculous amount of money into our economy that far outweighs that.

The only thing that pisses me off about the Olympics is all the yanks shouting loudly about nothing in particular on my walk to London Bridge. Opening ceremony was sick!

I think what he is trying to say Papa. With all due respect. You could take that 27 million and start taking care of people who need it the most. If there is change left over you keep an investment in the people and sooner or later those homeless kids now with degrees pay taxes.
1st step: Provide and educate children
2nd step let them become a force of society(poisitive not negative)
3rd step: collect taxes
On the other hand I just had a couple of beers and may have missed the point of the whole conversation.

i think theres about 2000 homeless kids in scotland just walking around the streets.
