    Well... this is Tlos...

It was built by the Lycians... and the Castle you see at the top was built by the Ottomans 2500 years ago or something like that...

And here is the dive location... that little island was the place they took people to be sacrificed...

So bascially... you dive towards that island... and get down to about 30/40m and it joins the mainland underwater... and there is a huge cave opening... which you then swim through. You swim through some pretty tight tunnels.... and you get to the first cavern after maybe about 15min swim. Its just a bit taller than head height... basically.. if you put your hands up you can just about touch the ceiling.... and its full of stalatites and what not... but you have to come in here as the next bit you enter what looks like a small pool.... almost like a jecuzzi.... but this jacuzzi is like 10-20m deep in a sloping angle... and once at the bottom you swim for maybe another 30min to the next cavern which is absolutly huge.... but you have slowly come closer to the surface as right at the top of the cavern is a crack where a little bit of sunlight comes through.... this canvern is called the cavern on Insects... and there is literally tons of the fukers in there....
At this point if you havent done a cave dive before you get to do another dive which then qualifies you for cave diving (which my mrs had to do).

But yeh... once the few people have done that you head back into another pool... and this dive is the logest of the lot and you are under water for maybe one and half hours.... going through tunnels and into a few very small caverns... none of which you can get out of the water in... but you get a few min to rest.... as you get closer to "The Underworld" you begin deving downwards and there loads of brick/stone work around you.... and at some points theres even what look liker stairs..... and as you come into "the Underworld" itself you come out of the water and its easilly the biggest cave ive ever seen.... and it looks like something out of an indiana jones movie... literally..... you get out of the water onto a beach like surface and right in front of you is a set of stairs that go up into a building that looks like the Parthenon.... the guides then light a load of Torches that are spoted around the cave.... and they tell you the story of it all..... above where you come into the cave is a tunnel and its believed that that tunnel once led to the surface. But the whole place is full over carvings and stone statues of their version of the Devil. There were a group of monks/priests or whatever that once lived down there which they say whos skin was as white as cotton (obviously because they saw no light).... and to get there you had to go through a series of tests/trials.....

It had the weirdest feeling in there.... which wasnt helped by the fact that there was this huge overpowering building underground. Inside the building there wasnt anything special really..... it had all been grave robbed over the years... and anything of value or of any particular interest had been taken out.... the only things that were in there were statues and carvings..... and a little table like thing where they made sacrifices... with a little river thing carved into it that led the blood into a big storage tank....

anyway... cant be bothered to type any more.

(thanks to sicz for posting this in the thread...)
This is basicaly what it looks like in the tunnels....

hahahaha. Yeh man! believe it or not!! I fukin hate heights... but put me in the water I love it. But yeh... wasnt quite Spelunking.... it was more of a guided tour through underwater caves/tunnels etc. I had done a few cave dives before... obviously to qualify as a cave diver... but nothing like the tunnels/caves in turkey.

hhaha totally with the fucked up pronounciation and the twisted up face thinking its going to be like aya napa half empty pint in the air and sooo excited. come back after two days pale in the face refusing to talk about it, the most he will say about it is 'they wanted us to... walk... (and then in a whisper) far' and forever racist against all latin americans from then on. its only natural rocks. also, the closest you ever got to spelunking was sticking a g i joe up your arse in the bathtub. slow walking fool.
