richie hawtin just said on facebook that the artist's were locked backstage and weren't allowed to leave until 3AM...

my mates were running the union stage... They are so pissed off this has happend, money down teh pan
what was the problem? sounds like it was a bit of a mess

sold 15,000 tickets to a 6,000 capacity festival

Selling a touch more than capacity is not unusual but that's taking the piss! Anyway it's not on if the organisers/security team can't keep the numbers of people entering the site down to safe levels. I'm assuming people weren't legging it over a fence so what gives??

One of the comments on their fb page..
lol no.Adrian Lim Well....that was a weird night...am I one of the few people that thought they had purchased tickets for Saturday to then only realise on Friday night @ 8pm they were for Friday? The stewards did update people if you had the sense to go and talk to them like human beings, however, the sheer lack of hoarding, gates and common sense has led to this event going down as one of the biggest cock-ups in festival history. The event organisers and others should learn from this experience, complete your homework, do your due-diligence and at least set the process's and procedures in place to manage and maintain people appropriately. I was quite surprised we weren't issued with wrist bands before the event (standard really) and that only 1 gate (gate 4) was being used for scanning of barcodes, with gate 1 being used for weekend tickets and press, even though I saw so many people be turned away irrespective. It doesn't really matter what you say about over-selling because most places do on the basis of no-shows (about 10%) Don't get me wrong I am massively disappointed having spent the last week getting into the music I didn't know, but we should all look at this as a learning experience and hope that Bloc and friends provide compensation and refunds for all those involved. There will be plenty of legal cases going on as a result of this, and we all need to see the bigger picture as it is probably beyond what most people can comprehend (late licenses, acoustic issues, failure to comply with HSE regulations, fire regulations, lease of land, planning law, non-deliverable of services, ultimate responsibility etc etc) Getting irate isn't going to help anyone, we just need to chill out, have a coffee (or tea) and find something productive to do on this Saturday day instead. Remember kids, failing to plan, is planning to fail

People were queuing to get into the tents, and the boat had a 700 person capacity so it was one in one out at 7pm apparently. I dont expect to queue at all to see music at a festival.
hopefully this wont affect other festivals in terms of licenses and policing.. they already have a hard enough time.
