sidechain question

Can u only sidechain with audio??

ive tried to sidechain using midi but it doesnt work and ive tried one signal midi n one audio n vice versa n still doesnt work

Should work with anything that gives away sound. I don't know witch daw you are using but in logic you need to send what ever you want to be giving the signal to a bus-channel in order to select the sidechain option in the compressor instead of selecting an audio clip.

im using cubase 5.

audio v audio works find but once midi gets involved it dont work

If the sidechain trigger is making a sound (or would be making a sound if you are using prefader funtions) then it will work.

For example, open up any VST synth and put it to a sine wave. Then record the midi of this however you like (every beat for example) and this will act as your trigger
