filter-ish effects with standard EQ?

Yooo,

After listening to many mixes and hearing how good the filter effects seem to make a mix sound, anyone have any ideas on how to achieve a similar sound by just using a standard EQ?

well there are different kinds of filters. but the filter effect is basically filtering out certain eqs and bringing others in more.

so the high-pitch filter is basically lowering the bass, increasing mids and highs at first, then decreasing mids and leaving only increased highs.
for the low-pitch filter it would be increasing bass, decreasing mids first and then decreasing highs.

thats how it sounds to my ears. maybe watch a couple of vids where people are mixing with filters and then play around and try to mimic the effect using eqs.

yeah, I tried increasing the highs and reducing the lows a lot and the mids a bit... good idea, cheers..

if you are after a filter-y type effect but without resonance try a smooth lowering of the bass and then just before all the bass is fully out start bringing the mids out again nice and smooth and then the same with the highs when the mids are almost fully cut.

Its worth mentioning as well that this works best with a mixer that has full-kill eq's otherwise you will still have some bass/mids poking through and it kinda ruins the effect!
