Been saving money up to start a small home studio and I've spent loads of it already! Wow. It really takes its toll on your wallet.

So far, I've spent £600

£80 on new RAM for my MacBook (4GB)
£139 on a Focusrite Saffire 6
£245 on 2x KRK Rokit 5s
£122 on Logic Studio (Student discount baby! Awwww yeah!:slayer:)

And I'm thinking of getting the Komplete 7 package. Was looking at it all last night. Looks fuckin amazing for the price you pay.

Also, when I have the money... I might be getting a dedicated Mac Pro. I can only dream as of yet though!

Suppose my question is this: What gear have you got, what more do you intend to buy and how much have you spent?

STUDIO PORN THREAD

tbh I never expect to break even, not even close.

FL 150€
Alesis M1 MkII 300€
PSP mixpack2 200€
Midi keyboard 200€
EMU 1212m interface used 100€
Mixer Yamaha MG12/4 used 90€
Emu E4X 300€
AKG K141 cans used 70€
=1400 €, give or take, plus cables plus whatnot.

+400 CDJ-800 used
+250 Hercules RMX dj console

But I've already made, let me calculate the numbers here, 20€ from selling my music :teeth:

I'm also dreaming of a dedicated music machine and Komplete 7 but that's very far from reality right now.

Now that I think of it, I'm at a point now where I can make tunes without longing for anything else for the setup. Better get working then, at my regular 0.08 € / track I would have to sell 17500 tunes to break even. :D

Yeah i recently upgraded too. went from a pc to a mac.
Mac Pro Qaud Core - 8GB ram
2 24" cinema displays
M-Audio Profire 610
M-Audio Midi keyboard
just using some sony speakers and some kam speakers right now (Saving next for KRK's)
using Logic Studio with Massive as my main pluggin right now but looking at that komplete 7 for next month (your right it does look awesome)

Spent around 4 grand so far and thats not too mention my decks...

2 cdj1000 mk3
djm 800
2 technic 1210's
sennhiesser hd25 headphones

LOVING the setup right now!!

I was thinking about getting Komplate also, looks like a very good deal.

Just spent a fair bit of bread on an Access Virus TI synth. Ouch! But I'm glad I did. :)

Haha... arent we all suckers!

@Kama: Who said anything about breaking even?! Lolllllllllllz. To be fair, I get paid for writing music for film and theatre too so I do see a little bit of a return. My "business" (if you can call it that) is still in its baby stages! haha

umm

KRK Rokit 5's - Lovely cones by the way, definatly great for there price.
MPK 25 Keyboard - Can't recall how much his was, around 200 i'd say
Alesis iO2 - Cheap shit

Producing on Laptop thats pretty shite.

Looking to buy a dedicated music PC this year with a Saffire 6, www.music-pc.com, check em out...there sick.

Looks like well have the same setup soon sam ha, except the PC - Mac

my studio pc i built from scratch and cost me around £900
mbox 2 pro around £500
akg perception around £200
2 x shure sm57 £80each
alesis m1 active monitors £200
very old 32 channel mixer £80 off ebay

Davis speakers (not studio speakers but good quality. Do the job before i get some Krk or others)
Harman/kardon amplifier
Quad core 3ghz proc
4g ddr3 ram
E-mu 1820 soundcard
Korg X50 synth/midi keyboard
Dual LG w2361v for screens
Akg K272HD Headphones
XP 64
Cubase 5
Komplete 6
+ Fx vsts and some vst synths

And of course a big desk to arrange all that in a great shape.

For epic gear porn go to www.gearslutz.com.

Don't forget that the more you spend time looking for stuff and working so you can afford them, the less you produce.
A lot of audio geek on gearslutz admit that they have thousands $ worth of gear and never produce a full track.

My next addition will be:

http://www.symbolicsound.com/cgi-bin/bin/view/Products/Pacarana

I will be buying the fastest Lappy I can get my hands on next Jan or Feb and that's what I'll run Kyma X on. Should be interesting... to leave my entire studio alone for a couple months and to simply run Kyma X on a lappy and this Pacarana alongside that.

I have plans on making Remix Packs at some point in the future and I'm thinking Kyma is going to be 'the' perfect solution for making ANY kind of sound I've ever wanted to make.

I think roughly $4500 for 'that' kind of uninterrupted RAW Processing Power is a steal... especially considering the old Cappyberra (dunnohowtospellit) cost almost twice that 'and' was considerably slower.

Mac Mini 2GB RAM
M-Audio Keystudio 49 Midi Keyboard
Sennheiser HD-25 Monitor Headphones
Dell 19" Monitor

Logic Pro 9
Native Instruments Massive, and a demo of Kore 2
Load of free plugins n samples...

Now that's a student budget!

Feck... nevermind. I just got off the phone with Symbolic Sound and Kyma X 'still' isn't a VSTi... so it can't be used as such. Because of that... getting audio rendered through Kyma via Midi riffs sent from your native DAW sounds like too much work for me at this point.

As soon as Kyma X is considered a VSTi by Cubase and Live, I'm gonna be ALL over it!
