DOA: You two have been making tracks together over the last year or so, and have been known as "Xample & Lomax" - when did you decide on kicking out a new moniker for your productions, and where does the name Loadstar come from?

Loadstar: Loadstar is our new name, which we will be using for our joint projects on Ram as we felt that some of our new material doesn't really sound like a typical Xample / Lomax track, so we felt a new name would be better suited. It involves lots of collaborations, vocal projects, downtempo material as well as the Drum & Bass that we are known for.

The name came quite randomly, while busting out the old Commodore 64 to look for some 8-bit samples we stumbled across the name, which was written on one of the cassettes! We liked it and it just kind of stuck!

DOA: You two got picked up by Ram and word for a while has been that you have been churning out tunes for an album, which is now set to drop in Spring 2011. Does the album have a title? What can heads expect from this LP – will it be a mixed bag of sounds, or strictly Drum & Bass?

Loadstar: That's right, we are currently working on an album, but at present it is still untitled.

In terms of what to expect, we have tried to be diverse while still capturing both of our signature sounds. The key for us is that we want to bring a new and exciting angle to our established sound. We have worked with a number of different vocalists and also at a variety of tempos. We are still working on tracks right now, the challenge will be deciding which tracks make the album!

DOA: "Link To The Past" has been getting a lot of support on the radio and in the clubs - is it fair to say that this is a good example of what to expect from the album?

Loadstar: Definitely, we always try and strike a balance between musicality and club appeal and "Link To The Past" seems to have achieved that.

DOA: What are some of your aspirations for Loadstar when the album promo kicks into full gear? Any ideas on what the first proper single will be?

Loadstar: "Link To The Past" is the first single taken from the album, and as discussed earlier it really encapsulates what we are about. As the series of singles progresses, hopefully people will get a good taste of what's to come from the album.

In terms of aspirations, as with any good album, we hope that it’s original, diverse and has longevity while still representing the sound of now.

DOA: Outside of your Loadstar bits, have you guys been working on any solo tunes lately? If so, anything sorted out for release?

Loadstar: For some time now, we have been solely writing together, reason being is that we find the results are often more interesting. That said the way we write tunes means that you still get our signature sounds as we tend to work on tunes independently bringing them together as the writing process develops. Under the new Loadstar guise, we will still be Xample and Lomax and will continue to use these names for other projects and releases. Don’t worry, we're not going anywhere!!

DOA: How does it feel to be aligned with Ram, following in the footsteps of guys like Andy C, Chase & Status, Sub Focus and many other talented producers, and what do you guys think you bring that differs from that lot entirely?

Loadstar: Ram has produced so many great artists, and we feel honored to be even mentioned alongside them. In terms of what we bring to the table that's different, that's a hard thing to say when you are talking about some of the scene's pioneers! We think what we do bring is the ability to write diverse music both within Drum & Bass and outside that genre.

DOA: Can we get a current top 10?

Loadstar:

1. Loadstar - Faith Breaker
2. Delta Heavy - Space Time
3 Loadstar - Therapy
4. Wilkinson - Mookwalker
5. Loadstar - Link 2 the Past
6. Shimon - Vengeance
7. Loadstar - BLVD
8. Fresh & Sigma - Cylon
9. Loadstar- Boa
10. Alex Perez & Noisia – Underprints

DOA: Where can the heads find you guys on the decks in the near future? Will you be doing any touring together to support the album?

Loadstar: We are currently touring as Xample & Lomax but as the year progresses you will see us doing more and more Loadstar gigs which will feature our MC and vocalist.

Needs more guest mix, I really enjoyed their mix for Bailey not so long back, got some lovely rollers and really gritty bangers on there, coupled with very tight mixing.

If anyone has any Loadstar sets going around, id really appreciate them :)
