  1. Sup dawg,
    Active monitors have built in amplification which means you do not need to plug them into an amplifier to power/have sound running through them.
    Passive speakers require an amp.
    Most of the time passive monitors have an aux output so all you need is a cable that will plug into aux and the earphone socket.
    Some monitors do not have this though and you need an interface to plug them into such as an M-Box.
