THE ROUNDS:
Round 1 winners will be announced the 22ND of July.
Only 2 people from each tent will go thru
Round 2 - You will be teamed up with another winner from ANOTHER tent to do a 40 minute mix of a "collaboration" of both your styles.
Teamates will be picked by me and judges.

Which is a shame because ive got something BIG planned, a little peak is Forum Regulars Vs The Newbies.
It will not be like any of the competitions so far, very different !
Im currently trying to come up with different ways to test you guys, not necessarily thru a 20 minute mix, but more on creativity.
Thank you to everyone who gave in their mix, i have actually almost listened to every single one of them,
and personaly have already finished judging the Noob Tent with feedback and everything.
Everyone's mix is TOP MARK. Very Impressed !!
Also im currently working on a Round 2 for the Newbies Tent. Id say you guys check their mixes out.

Every listing looks like some love has gone into it. Some look liek good all round selections in the Noob tent, and well scorchio really by the looks a things...the real lshame is all the people who didn't drop their d/l off in time, I bet their mixes would have been well worth the effort of listening too.

Sorry about the delay on the track list guys and sorry about the quality of the mix! I'm more of a selection kinda guy than perfect beatmatching but there were some horrid fuck ups in this :lol: it was also my first recorded mix so its pretty sketchy (levels etc) and you can also tell i need new needles..

Your tracklist is looking mint Radius. I was contemplating whether to do an old skool hardcore mix or an old skool jungle mix. Went with the old jungle instead. This is going straight on the iPod.

had to do mine in a hurry, as my decks and internet were packed while i was moving house. cant say its perfect, but im glad how it turned out, considering that i did it in one night, and that i was using two decks + 2 CDJs for the first time.
anyway, it aint all about winning, just want to say that ive enjoyed it loads, much respect to chloe and co for the hard work AND the constant reminders that rules must be followed or banishment shall occur..

I've got a very effective and scientific method of judging going on here, involving post-its, ticks and crosses.
So far so good. a couple of crosses but mainly just ticks, and a couple that I'd definitely enjoy listening to again!!

Nuera, just listened to yours. Tight mixing and well thought-out tune selection. Good on you for starting with a slightly techy tune then bringing in the jump-up. It wasn't all anthems which I enjoyed... if I was at a festival I would want a DJ to bring something a bit different since most all the same tunes get rinsed at big events. Thank you for dropping Heaven & Hell, such a sick tune! I also really liked how their weren't many breakdowns, you let the beats roll.
Listening to Scuba's now, will post feedback when it's finished.

Good mix though the selection wasn't entirely up my street. It reminded me of a Hype set (which is a good thing) in terms of selection and mixing style. A bit sloppy in places but nothing that made me want to turn it off. It sounded, well, live, which I can appreciate seeing as though we are to mix as though it is at a festival. Good idea ending with Tombraider, that tune goes off!

I'm not sure I can give any feedback yet though, because I'm a judge. But I've been sat here all daywith a wig on and a hammer hitting stuff :D
One thing I will say is that it's fucking difficult.

but wont take any matter when it comes to the competition scores.

Yeah everyone really upped their game for this one. Theres beeen some quality entries. I was literally blown away by the Old Skool tent. I put on Don't Sleep's mix first and from there off it was KAAAAAPLAAAAAWWWW all the way through Pistachio's, to Radius', to Gloxxy's.
my marks are in. well played to everyone. there were a couple of mixes form the tent that i'll enjoy again and again.
Finished listening to all the newbie mixes. Done a first draft of marks and feedback etc. Pretty much all of the mixes were scoring 4's & 5's. Gonna listen to them all again tomorrow and get super critical (Y)

Good mix though the selection wasn't entirely up my street. It reminded me of a Hype set (which is a good thing) in terms of selection and mixing style. A bit sloppy in places but nothing that made me want to turn it off. It sounded, well, live, which I can appreciate seeing as though we are to mix as though it is at a festival. Good idea ending with Tombraider, that tune goes off!

i didn't think i would be dishing out such high marks, but there was hardly anything they could have done to improve their mixes.
i recommend all three mixes to anyone that hasn't dl'd them and will certainly look out for more stuff from all three in the future.

perhaps you should come up with a scoring system for judges, and just like entrants who dont meet the deadline are excluded from future comps, have the judges bear the same penalty.

*The first mix was a bit dodgy. Even though I love the first two tunes you played they were mixed quite sloppily and sounded like they were lined-up to double drop but then just cut on the breakdown before the first drop on the second tune. This kinda killed the flow of the intro.The rest of the mix flows quite nicely with a few beat clashes but nothing too major.
*There was a lot of jump up in the mix and it lacked a bit of what i'd call strictly "dancefloor," while the EQing was fine i felt you could've done more with it to give the mix more depth, i noticed a nasty key clash at one point aswell but if you were rollin the mix out off the cuff then that can't really be helped
TRACKLIST: 6.5/10
*Some storming tunes in there but it did get a little bit boring at times as there wasnt much variation in the tune selection. I did like how you started with more well known tunes then ended with the more intricate and lesser known stuff. Also big up for playing Silent Strike.
* I really rated the tracklist, there were some gems in there i'd never heard before that i'm strongly considering bagging now, mixing was quick and reasonably tight, mix flowed well. Sensai - Grid 9, urghgh, never heard this until now but do want!

*Got me smiling and bobbing my head straight away. Then got straight down to business.
Some large double drops throughout. The mixing is pretty much spotless. The mix into Shadow Knows was a bit short but apart from that the mixing was spot on, Id say best mixing of the tent.

* Excellent balance between jump up & dancefloor tracks, your EQing was good, mixing was nice & quick.I felt the mix lacked flow in places, seemed to be a bit stop & start at times, beat matching was shakey at times and there was a bit too much going on for me in some of the mixes. Not afraid / Land of the giants mix, this worked reallllly well, it put a smile on my face when i heard it, top mix.

*Tune-wise its all guns blazing the whole way through and Polygon was a nice touch to throw in the middle plus its just an awesome tune.

*Props on doing a three deck mix i thought you held it together very comfortably considering, the mix was fast paced and full of variety which is exactly what you want in a jump up mix, i really enjoyed it. Beat matching a little shakey at times but i guess that's to be expecting with a three deck mix.

* This mix was really dirty. The middle section was a killer. I really liked your style of mixing- just teasing the incoming tune for a while and then letting it roll. The mix got better as it went on- was properly good from after 178 Trek.In my last point in the positive bit I said that it got better as it went on. Therefore I felt that the mix was quite slow to start with. After that epic middle section it sort of turned how it did at the start and petered off somewhat. If the mix had continually been like the middle section then it would have been one of the best in the tent imo.

*Nice intro, love ed rush. Nice little mix up with zinc's tune ! Kept me on my toes the entire time, when bad company came on. A nice little surprise again, not full of "new releases". A nice dirty mix. Well done !! Will give this another listen for sure.

*Mixing- tunes were just being chucked in at times- e.g. F-Zero. This gave it a messy feel.EQ/Levels- Things got quite loud when there was an incoming tune- e.g. Dawntreader. This was compared to every other mix in the tent.There was a minor 'screw up' at the end with a bit of clashing. Pedantic maybe, but when the other entries have near-perfect mixing this was quite noticeable.

*Viperfish VIP into Turbulence was pulled off well. Red Mist VIP into Black Doves was the double drop of the tent- tore the roof of my house- would be an instant rewind anywhere. Epic. The ratio of tech to the other choice was a bit uneven in places. There were clumps of one style and then clumps of another. There could have been a more even spread.

There was one mix that didnt sound quite right (Creatures of habit into Bear music) if i was too find a fault, but thats pretty much it! Great stuff and nice as its from a noob, lets hope he continues posting on the forum.

I think what you need to do is swap msn/aim addys with your team mate or pm's, and discuss what your plan of attack is ie. tracks you want to play and styles etc. so the the mix sounds well planned and awesome
Basically you and your team mate need to cover those two genre's in a 40 minute mix both inputting 20 mins each
How you do this is entirely up to yourselves, like chloe said 'be creative' if you guys cant merge the two mixes together PM $marty or sphinx your two mixes and they will blend them together

Russla man, I agree with you on quite a few parts. I was suprised when the mixes weren't anon, but then for me, I've barely spoken to any of the guys that I was judging. I do think that for more established members defo, it should be more anonomous.
You have to remember that the guys judging aren't Andy C or the boss of some other huge record label, and at the end of the day, the standard was so high and little niggly things had to be pointed out to come to the conclusion of a winner. Alot of it would have boiled down to personal preferance in the end anyway.
I for one didn't have much clue about judging, and so I had to entirely judge on what I thought sounded nice, and what flowed etc.
Like most have people have said before, take it on the chin and use it to make your next mix even better, or if you do feel 100% that you believe that it's a popularity contest, then don't enter again. I'm not saying this to sound harsh or anything, but just avoid these threads and carry on posting your mixes in the mixes section and make do with the feedback you get from there.
This is the first competition that i've properly followed, but that was only because I was asked to judge.
I doubt I'll follow it too much from now though, maybe just to see how Tornado does, because his mix smashed it imo.

I ve had 3-4 judges fail on me this competitions. And the reason its not ANONYMOUS is because YOU GUYS cant follow the fucking rules when i say "when uploading your mix, dont put your name put ******:"
Then i have to run around, and ask you guys to do it.

makes me so angry that i spent over 4 hours last night putting all the feedback, counting up all the scores and seeing if the winners were justified. Putting down all the work that goes on to these competitions
to 'BIASED RESULTS".

Russla man, I agree with you on quite a few parts. I was suprised when the mixes weren't anon, but then for me, I've barely spoken to any of the guys that I was judging. I do think that for more established members defo, it should be more anonomous.
You have to remember that the guys judging aren't Andy C or the boss of some other huge record label, and at the end of the day, the standard was so high and little niggly things had to be pointed out to come to the conclusion of a winner. Alot of it would have boiled down to personal preferance in the end anyway.
I for one didn't have much clue about judging, and so I had to entirely judge on what I thought sounded nice, and what flowed etc.
Like most have people have said before, take it on the chin and use it to make your next mix even better, or if you do feel 100% that you believe that it's a popularity contest, then don't enter again. I'm not saying this to sound harsh or anything, but just avoid these threads and carry on posting your mixes in the mixes section and make do with the feedback you get from there.
This is the first competition that i've properly followed, but that was only because I was asked to judge.
I doubt I'll follow it too much from now though, maybe just to see how Tornado does, because his mix smashed it imo.

I'll enter the next one if its an anon, otherwise don't really see the point in trying to better myself when i genuinely felt there was nothing technically wrong with my mix and style. The tracklist addmittly was short but for any type of tech/neuro gig i've been to its not about how many tunes you mix but long blends and good eqing. Which is what i'd want to hear at a neuro festival tent, not 3 decks with tunes coming out of my ears (this is no way to offend you Sphinx just my view).
I hope my comments arent completely viewed as being a spoil sport but as a Dj who feels a better judging system across the board is needed. Too many different approaches being taking to judging which is probably why people with clangs and slips got a better mark for mixing then me. Doesnt really makes sence but oh well.

and my favorite ones were NOT from regulars, and i made that clear.
If anything i push the new members IN to give the regulars a run for their money, so how dare you say this is a rigged competition to favor the regulars.
If you check back on old competitions, you will see the feedback and youll see other member LISTENING to the feedback to become better.

I'm entitled to my view and i'm sorry but thats the way I see it. The amount of hours i put into that fucking mix, spent ages getting the eqing and blends and mixes as tight as possible just to get a fuckin 6.5 when people with clangs got more points, you'd be as pissed!!!!!!!! So you can kindly fuck yourself, wasting fuckin hours of my time for what? Some stupid ignorant judges who hav no clue what they are on about. A joke!

Whoa Whoa whoa, I'm not causing a fuss. I was suprised I got full marks. I was just interested to see what sweetpea thought of my mix. I just wanted constructive criticism.
I get that she's not an official judge anymore but anyway I can improve my mix in the next round would be appreciated.
