View Full Version : THIS IS BOLLOCKS...
I'm getting fucking tired of the DNB scene at the moment
It's all fucking jump up which I hate, the MCs nowdays are FUCKING TERRIBLE (Don't talk to me about Harry Shotta, he's got lyrics but I've heard his recent shows, he cant cut it.)
What happened to Liquid? What happened to Jungle Tech? LTJ Bukem is probably scared to play nowdays, you all seem to be after fucking mindless AGGRESSIVE synthy type tracks that in my opinion are just fucking noisy wank. It's like fucking bazookas by a microphone. FUCKING CLOWNSTEP MAN.
I used to come here every day, grab at least 2 new sets and that'd be me. I still come every day, I've not downloaded a set in weeks.
I dont really have any specific criticism, this is a rant, but it's just not sounding good anymore. Is it just me? Because I'm gonna just leave this DNB thing and mix dubstep if this shit doesn't get better.
[EDIT]
BTW did nobody else clock the fact that more and more people are putting up garage/grime/hiphop sets now? Other people seem to be losing interest as well.
I agree that jump up and wobble has become tiresome. I do not rate Taxman, original sin, tc, etc. It just isnt my thing. All sounds the same.
Having said that dnb is so versatile. Have you tried Hospital records? Hospital is the best thing in DNB at the moment in my opinion. High Contrast, Logistics, Commix, Danny Byrd and London Elektricity are the way forward. Just hope too many chavs dont jump on the bandwagon.
As for mc's they dont do much for me anymore. GQ is the best as he doesnt chat too much.
But if you are so bored of it you cant enjoy any part then time to get into something else.
glad somebody else has noticed, i'm finding that i dont enjoy mixing this stuff any more, whereas before i got a real KICK out of it all. it does ALL sound the same.
yeah man, Danny Byrd is my lifeline atm, and Elektricity have always been good, same with Logistics, Commix i'm think i need to check out.
I agree on the mcs...but every subgenre has its high and lows.Wouldn´t just say Jump Up soundz all the same but if you don´t really like it, then the words come fast:mrgreen:

Also add Tonn Piper
An as for artists I've been staying well away from Hazard, Gdub, Original Sin, Pleasure, Callide, etc... aswell as the song's they are making arent what I would really call music... Its just somthin to dance to, I'm bored of the track after the first 32 bars...

I absolutely love alot of the tunes from artists that Im sure your all talking about, Hazard original sin taxman etc.... But I hate them aswell. A whole set of it is ####. Any tune sounds better after a different tune. Wot is pissin me off is that you get a tape pack where all djs rinse same ####. Aswell as andy C, Friction, Hype, hazard etc id like to see spectrasoul, Serum, Bladerunner, Nu:tone, Noisia etc. A few sets of each style. I like rinsin everything its a shame more people dont.
A few sets of each style. I like rinsin everything its a shame more people dont.
style-nazism ftw :D
like to spin all "sub"genres aswell. if u dont like whats on the surface, u just have to dig deeper.. there are quite a few decent artists puttin out sick tunes..
as for the mcs. its all about what you want to hear/where you are and so on.
at a big rave with hazard droppin some big new dubs i wanna hear non-stop chatting from the ones like evil or shotta, but if im listening to some chilled out liquid session or a tech-set, i want decent hosting from the ones like SP, ID, stamina and so on ...

There's loads of diverse sets posted up here man, just gota know what to look for.
Rather than check every *HAZARD B2B ORIGINAL SIN W/ 45 MCS* Thread, browse around. (Not aimed at anyone)
There's loads of good selecters posting their stuff in the members mixes thread as well.
There's always gonna be aspects of the scene different people are'nt into, but you just gotta sift through stuff you don't like to find summink special.
What sort artists you after?? Il point you in the direction of some nice sets.

as a lot of ppl sid try other dnb artists. in my collection i have everything, i dont use sub genres watever you want to call em,but all my records cover all aspects of dnb, therefore my mixing can be switched accross all styles it's only boring to mix, if you just buy the same style tunes.Or just listen to the same all the time.there are that many dnb artists that you can choose from!

Agree with you, jump up sucks. Get yourslef listening to some Marky, Bungle, Ney Faustini...good Brazilian vibes, restored my faith in D&B.
hey, just because i dont like it, doesn't mean you lot aren't allowed to!
i know what you mean about subgenres, and searching the site (and i have), but i'm talking about the scene as a whole, and the quality of dubplates being released today. I guess i miss jungle tech, other people seem to have happily got onto jump-up
klaus6425: that sounds FUCKING HORRIBLE, i wouldn't want to find another track like it. However stick on any other jump up tune you care to mention, its the same GROWLING bass/synth and not a lot else.
why people'd listen to this shit for fun, is beyond me.
oh and that's fatman d yeah? this guy's supposed to be a good MC? sorry fatman, but i'd rather you shut the fuck up, you're making a bad tune even worse.
Listen to Eks+Herbz stuff from before 2000, listen MC Conrad from 1995, listen to Hyper D in 1998. THAT my friends is MCing.

Im not bang into jump up anymore. well i like it but not as much.
get some sick tunes still but all ive been listening to really is anything from:
Freak
Tech Itch Recordings
Penertration
Algorythm
Barcode
Offkey
Obscene
Evol Intent Recordings
Lifted Music
As for Jump up i will only get sets with DECENT mcs on such as harry shotta, Mekar, Gusto, Stevie Hyper D, GQ and SP(aslong as the DJ is good), older skibadee and fun sets(when the mc beef was present).
Ive been listening to liquid alot and stuff which has abit of a jungle element such as the stuff that gets played in Dj Vapour Mixes.
Mainly because i like to put abit of atmosphere in my tunes(my newest), during the main part.
Jump Up Dosent really do that anymore.
Jump Up is played alot more because it is one of the most recognized Sub Genres in drum and bass, i feel that its got bigger since the DJ Hype DNBA cd.
I dunno though

Awfull, was bored after 16 bars... Would be ok at a rave, where your just there to rave, and its going to get switched or mixed after 32 - 64 bars... But I couldnt listen to it all the way through...
yer as i said in what i think is the exact opposite of this thread, if you dont like dont listen to it!
your never goin to like every tune that gets realeased thats the idea there all DIFFERENT. but dont pigeonhole it all and decide what you do and dont like before you give it a chance. and as for ur argument about MC's.. well, there wicked! not all of them all the time, but even andy c clangs a mix every now and again...

GZero, Its funny 'cuz even the worst producers atm have more talent then you in their little pinky finger. If you truly cared about the state drum & bass then you'd do something to change it i.e. dj or produce...BUT you probably have no talent whatsoever and would most definately get booed off of the stage and get tomatoes thrown at you. Do you really think that the producers that make the songs that your bashing care whatsoever about your opinion. STOP BITCHING AND GET UP OFF YOUR ASS AND DO SUMTHING...fuck

Doc Scott, Marcus Intalex, Calibre and all the stuff they play/produce and their opinions of the scene are what restored my faith when I was in a similar mind set to you. It was about two or three years ago now when all I had really been listening to was Fab & Groove radio 1 show and, with all due respect to them, I was starting to get bored of the music. Then I came across Soul:ution radio and Doc Scotts myspace mixes and it was a revelation.
As Marcus Intalex says
"The true sound of Drum & Bass. Not something that sounds like a 17 year old rock band who's just listened to Slipmat (Slipknot?) on their first E and decided to make drum and bass. No, it's not that. It's real drum and bass, made by real people who have liked drum and bass for a long time. It's not a rock thing, it's not a fame thing, it's not a money thing. It's a love thing."
In terms of more jump up stuff, I like Hype as he plays a good range of styles, and he's been into the scene for so long he knows good jump up from bad. The Full Cycle crew are better than most too. As for MC's, I've never seen the point in most of them. They have their use on the night, but I don't need to hear them on recordings at home. If I want to hear rhyming I'll put some hip hop on thanks.
You mention the different styles of music which have been uploaded here. I don't think that's because people are bored of dnb. Dnb is influenced by all these styles of music, that's how it was created in the first place. A giant melting pot of musical ideas and influences and different vibes. I'm concerned that a lot of the poor dnb produced today is made by people whose only musical influence is dnb from the last 6 months.
you must have such a narrow mind if you were bored after half the intro

Didn't seem particularly scared here here (http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3267/2924339184_99d108bd2f_o.jpg) on Saturday. I very much enjoyed that show, as well as that "clowny jump up shite". There is room for both. :respekt:

Im not about to start ripping in to you... cant be arsed...
Jump-Up.... yes.... ill stand in your corner and say it gets a bit boring...... but.... it has its place.... as with all types of dnb.....
I cant stress this enough.... DRUM AND BASS is DRUM AND BASS........ ITS NOT JUMP-UP..... ITS NOT NEURO..... ITS NOT TECH.... ITS NOT LIQUID.......
any fool who decides to split dnb into tiny little minded catagorys and play only tunes from them same catagorys..... isnt in any way a Junglist.... nore do they deserve to be ever considered a drum'n'bass dj.
these "sub-genres" are for little minded people...... "im a jump-up DJ"..... "im a Neuro DJ"..... FUCK SAKE!! what ever happened to the Drum'n'Bass DJ????
I must be old-skool!
And as for you going on about how jump-up is shit.... have a little think before you say things bro..... Jump-Up has pushed the production quality forward..... for every style of drum'n'bass..... if it wasnt for the likes of Jump-UP im pretty sure we would still be listening to basslines that have the frequency range of 10 or 20hz.... thanks to jump-up alot of producers have realised that you can create a bassline that can have a massive frequency range.... Also jump-up has pretty much got the scene to where it is in terms of popularity...
Anyone remember the days when there where two types of dnb??
THE DARK STUFF...... and...... THE NOT DARK STUFF
Those were the good ol'days......
BRING BACK THE DRUM'N'BASS DJ!!!!
Agree with you, jump up sucks. Get yourslef listening....
more Jump Up?
its the same GROWLING bass/synth and not a lot else.
why people'd listen to this shit for fun, is beyond me.
Then you can´t recognise B-line as the same every fuckin´time coz you don´t know.:)
ta for the polites responses, the rest of you can spin on it.
i make some comments regarding MY OPINIONS on the current direction the sound is taking, and you lot act like i've personally insulted you and fucked your sisters. grow up you pansys.
You wouldn't say this shit to my face, you'd act fucking civilized, so don't, because you're sat in ur bedrooms, think you can come like that, telephone tough guys on a new medium don't impress me or others.
So, wait, I don't like these new styles so i must have "no talent"? Apart from not making any sense, thats just childish mate. For the record I'm not a professional DJ, I'm just a raver who enjoys himself on the decks. Without wanting to put too finer point on it, suck out you little faggot, i probably got you more talent than you, dispite it not really mattering to me.
i am not denigrating these other tracks and producers, i'm just saying that they're not for me, I wanted to see if other people were getting tired of it as well.
DNB is (i'm told) one of the HARDEST types of track to produce, I personally can't do it, and those who do I have nuff respect for. Do they care if i don't like their tracks? No, because i'm just one bloke with an opinion and if it really upsets you that much, then you need a fucking hobby, or SOMETHING to fill your life.
again i'm not suggesting that there's NOTHING out there for people who liked the old school sounds, i'm just saying the vast majority of stuff i'm hearing nowdays is this new aggy style and I DON'T LIKE IT. Disagree? That's fine with me, I can respect your views without crying like little kids.
once more, thanks to those who replyed to this politely, I'm gonna look into the stuff you suggested.
THE DARK STUFF...... and...... THE NOT DARK STUFF
Those were the good ol'days......
Yes, They were the days. It's gone crazy now, toooo many names!!!!

hey man,
I don't like every tune i hear either but then i just don't listen to it anymore, plain & simple. Instead of japping about how bad some tune or genre is, put yer energy in looking for the biggest fattest most kick-in-the-balls tune there is...it's out there somewhere!!
If ya can't find it, keep listening to the sick tunes from yore & listen to some dubstep, maybe you'll like it better...
not insulting by the way ;)

lol, i get the jist of this thread on the first page, didnt read the rest so sorry if i step on any toes lol........DnB is so diverse i find that there is a mix for every mood and day of the week, been listening too it since day dot and i find myself now swaying towward DJ's like Spectrasoul, Alix Perez, Sabre, Lomax, Random Movement, have a look for Marcus Intalex RBRadio shows and for a bit of the darker side Loxy, Ink and that Chris SU mix thats floating about right now on here. as for MC's System, ID, Stamina etc etc, i tend really to stay away from One Nation's and Random Concept mixes and all the really big events as it all seems to be built for baseball cap wearing top off base face whistle blowers :) , no offense if you are one, you light up my raving experiences as you crack me up!! thats just my 2 pence worth, if you aint happy with whats around now, just do what i do, go back in time and listen to old stuff from 94 95 96, then come back when its more to your flavor :).

my personal opinion have a look at the members mixes and download some joe bloggs in his bedroom. They will not be limited by playing the so called big tunes of the moment and it won't be interrupted by some numpty on a microphone!

i think the problem with the mc is this.. take any of the majors, bar a couple. there toralable to great, but then they make the fatal error of letting all there pals chat to. who fucking blow! as for jump up. if you can make tune you can make tune. if i could make tune would i A. make liquid which is not as popular. not as much sales. records or raves. (i must add i'm not cussin any sub genre) or do i B. make main stream. still underground, but undergroung main stream, and make a good name for my tunes, and status. get more bookings at packed out raves, and make more money through record sales bla bla bla? its all DNB???? shit man. i like horror movies. some fucking stink. some are great. point is its all the same genre! but serious all those mc. leave your no good mc at the side looking hard! there at least good at that lol.

If ya can't find any good dnb out there, then you're not looking very hard.
There's loads of great producers in every style atm. Go check out Brookes Brothers, DC Breaks, Metrik, InsideInfo, Furlonge, NC-17, Masheen, Apex, Icicle, just to name a few; and maybe your confidence in the "state" of dnb will be restored.

You are not trying hard enough. I have been collecting DnB on Vinyl for close to 10 years. I have never found DnB boring. Some tracks and trends can be irritating, but lay off the baron & hazard if you are not feeling their production.
Try asking whats new in liquid if thats your gig. Alix perez is awesome, or Redeyes new EP's, how about anything from Calibre?
If that isnt gonna get you excited, try some Herbalizer, or Prefuze 73, Massive Attack, Kruder & Dorfmeister.
Or jump back into the classic hospital or good looking catalogue. Pull out an Omni Trio LP or rediscover POLAR.

dude thats madness???? ok your a promtor. you got a night next month. do you book a guy who mixes to a level thats acceptable, and 85% of the tracks he playes are his or from the label he runs/works for. or tom who you grew up with, who can mix like no one else you know, but has DD in his bag. a few new tune and a couple of radio 1 dnb top 10? of course making good tunes gets you bookings? its not easy to make tune. as i've stated before. i travel with one of the "main producers/dj's" trust me i listen to pure tune from john o groats to land end. all fancy themselves as top producers. guess what they stink. its very very rare we get a cd, and think thats good or thats got potential.
dont get me wrong. i doubt i could even bang a drum in rythem. i'm just saying how it is. my overall opion is if you are a dj and you want to get further than your bedroom then you gotta either put a dance on or produce?

Look, there is this thing called "jump up" thats has become popular to many people. but cmon, theres no need to move totally onto dubstep. there still as much or even more liquid now. its just jump up has become the main focus. just ignore the jump up shizz if u dont like it and look for the liquid. there is many many liquid stuff going on that is superb.
i recommend going on itunes and subscribing to the "hospital records podcast". a show about a hour long, every week. will keep u updated with lovely liquid and neuro tunes ;)

how about going to hospitality/shogun audio/marky and friends/essence of chi?
the dnb scene is far from dying my friend its just a fact that round here jump up is very popular, and thats just the way it is. producing jump up is fun and so is hearing it on a decent sound system. I dont listen to jump up much myself in the lounge i much prefer hospital records/spearhead/symmetry and other liquid stuff for that.
I have sometimes uttered the magic words 'this is shit' and thought it isnt worth a listen, but I dont think you can say that it represents the scene as a whole

You are looking in the wrong places mate lol
the range of music in drum and bass is exactly why i love it so much. there's sooo much scope and variety in this scene that it never fails to inspire me. granted imo there is alot of shit floating around (not specifying sub genre's or artists here). but we wud all be moaing alot more if it all sounded the same. i personally love the dancefloor scene, and am finding more and more sick artists everyday, like inside info and shock one. reli feeling their stuff at the moment. alot of my pals hu dj all like their own styles in their own way. and thts wot is my fav part of our common musical taste. that we all have our own individual stamp and take on the scene. i dont like all of what i hear no, but i like hearing wot other people like and seeing their passion for wot they do the same as me.
i dont think the scene is going all jump up, i like jump up personally but yer theres alot of shit, so i simply just dont play it. i rekon when i get a bit older i will move away from jump up alot more but atm im happy to take "silly" tunes by the likes of hazard and original sin at face value. they are wot they are, if u dnt like it u have the option to not listen to it. but please dont hate the scene over it.
Such a waste thread, does anyone ever read anyone else's replies? safety and Original Nuttah summed it up with two posts.
you should never hate drum and bass. i don't dig jump up much, but it's an important part of the scene, recognise and understand* the reason the scene has splintered up so much is because people can't appreciate the many aspects this wonderful music has created.

if you like jump up, good for you.
i dont see the point in argueing about if subgenres exist and which one is shit
because we all have different opinions AND we've all argued about this
already in 10 threads like this.
and whoever started this thread, dont act surprised if your gettin aggressive response.

drum and bass alwyas changes.. mite not be to everyones taste, but thats the same as any genre. i mean look at pop like 10 yeasr ago, everyone (girls mainly i mean) where mad for spice girls. Now you get people who hate that music now, but used to love it, n you get people who love the music from back in the day (spice girls bad example) n think the new stuff is crap. i think peoples tastes change, not the quality... thats my opinion anyway :D

I think what we lack in the dnb industry now is "Diversity".
I believe there's producer's out there who are more than capable of bringing out innovative and different sounding music, but who seem to be getting drowned out by the influx of producers all copying the likes of G Dub, Hazard and Taxman etc.
This is down to music software being more readily available to a mass market now, which really should be a good thing, as people being creative is positive. However with this you get alot more weaker copy cat tracks being presented to the public.
Don't get me wrong, I think there are jump up producers etc who have real talent. They're just providing music on demand. Lets face it, there's a LARGE number of kids who love their jump up.
What we need is more promotion of versatile acts, different producers/dj's, new nights that break the current mould of just throwing 20 artists who are going to play the same sounding set's all night and for people to put alot more focus on show casing a wide range of music styles.
I think we need people who have been following the industry for a while to educate, and contribute more to the scene.
Oh and abolish those "we pick the artists, you vote for them" awards. Who care's who the "BEST" is? It really means nothing, when nominee's are picked without the public's input, and the "scene" has to vote/pick from the selected artists.
But I would like to say, fair play to anyone who's been put forward for an award.
Having sub genres in an industry is healthy. Something for everyone, whether it's liquid, jump up, darkers or whatever!

cor chloe u been a busy girl, over 500 posts already
Hey people, im new here and hello to you all. i imagine people have been having these sorts of conversations for years.
i started buying records and dee jaying at 12 years old (im now 28) i have all the classic hardcore, jungle, whatever.
ive been producing my stuff for about 3 - 4 years properly now, and one things for sure - variety is a healthy thing. sure, any style can be annoying after a whole hour of the same thing no matter what style it is.
the best dee jays will always reprazent the scene to the full by pullng tunes out there bag from all over the shop, all shapes and sizes, all genres. thats how i like to play, and thats what you should aim for even if your a house bod or whatever.
the other thing is that obviously it takes a long time and patience to learn how utilize the equipment you have and get the best out of it. youngsters have ZERO patience these days cos everything moves so fast in the world of technology, so it fits that alot of the younger crowd are into the jump up stuff as opposed to the more refined sounds ect.
that want it BANG and they want it NOW! if i was 17, ide prob be the same to an extent.
im not saying they are immature either cos theres some great jump out there for sure, just buy the ones you like and leave the others. seriously man, every type of music has its lemons and has its cream. have it ALL in your bag.
peace

My interest in D&B varies over the scene/artists/producers/Djs. Like in my vinyl collection goes from spor, break, noisia etc to pleasure, sly,Gdub etc. I could listen to it all. I feel mixing and listening to different styles of D&B is good because i beleive it shows me how completely differnt tunes can be all classed under one scene. ive been into D&B since i was 8. Im 15 now and i feel that hearing completely different styles of tunes is good. I admit i do like alot of jump up but some of it is getting out of hand. It fucks my ears up when im walkin to school with my ipod on.

Very true, i've not downloaded a set from any nights by any of the big or small promoters in the last year or so.
If i download anything then it's either an old skool set from no one in particular or some set from any of the old raves that used to happen.
Any new/recent mixes i have are purely from people on here only after seeing a tracklist, so big up all the DNBforum DJ's.
