BURIAL – UNTRUE

Possibly the most exciting (and definitely the most innovative) producer in electronic music for the last couple of years IMO.

This new album is well worth a listen, needs a bit of effort (all good music does) if you are new to the sound but well worth it. Kind of like a soundtrack to an empty city at night…very ghostly and kind of creepy in a good way but so beautiful. Havnt seen a bad review about it. Its grouped with dubstep, which I guess is fair but the sound also takes in hip hop, rnb and general electronic bizzle….

The first album took me a few listens but now its one of my favorite albums...this one carried on where the last left off…….

Its really weird who this appeals too…people get different things from the music and hear it in different ways…even my mum was feeling it!.....

had this a while and wasn't that impressed on first few listens, found some of the soundscapes to be too dreary, leaving me feeling empty...gave a sort of eerie abandoned derelict church in a storm feel

Etched Headplate stood out for me though, along with Homeless...

will give it some more listens though when the mood strikes me, see if it grows on me more.

Ive been reading the way reviewers and journalisst have triedt= to capturethe burial sound in words..this is my favourite so far:

http://www.villagevoice.com/music/0747,asdfsadf,78402,22.html

"Like 2step left out in the rain to warp and pockmark, it's a post-rave sound in both macro and micro context, the faded textures of "Archangel" soaked in dreamlike nostalgia for the culture's past while perfectly capturing the end of last night's party—the room deserted, the ghost of good times hanging misty in the air."

amazing album
definitely going to be very groundbreaking in the many genres the music covers.
when i first listened to it, and that almost tribal drumbeat comes on in archangel and then the vocals come in, i was stunned. it's just different to everything ive listened to before.
the mystery about his character and life just adds more intrigue and emotion into his music i reckon.

Truth be told, I've been listening to quite a lot of dubstep recently.

Dubstep is really the new jungle, when you listen to a dubstep track, you really don't know what is going to happen, as compared to a modern dnb track - which is fairly predictable even if you've never heard it before. Dubstep producers don't have any hard and fast rules limiting them and they don't really know what they're doing production wise - exactly the same as dnb producers back in the day. Pretty cool.

But that said - dubstep is jungle without an amen or other infectious break and the bpm-limited beats are not going to make me declare "I'm a fucking junglist" or make my babymamma dance her ass off for the first time she heard a >160 bpm moment at the moment I decided she was gonna to be mine .

I've hated dubstep abnd everything to do with it since it (along with students in Kanye glasses) took over DnB clubs up and down the country……..however, just recently I am pressed to find any new drum and bass that makes me excited………..been listening to other music for over a year now and decide to give Burial album a go…….i was totally shocked to hear an album that was more on a garage vibe to the constant wobble and banging of pipes lots of dubstep seems to be. There seems to be a battle for who can produce the filthiest dubstep atm,. However………..Untrue is just unbelievable!!! Can anyone recommend any dubstep tunes on the same par? Something that isn’t just wobble all the way through………

Can't find the thread, but there is one that someone made with a huge list of artists with that style.

Try Burial's self titled debut.

And search for other stuff on youtube. He has a few remixes too that aren't on albums. The Wayfaring Stranger remix is raw.

---------- Post added at 09:59 ---------- Previous post was at 09:57 ----------

This isn't the thread, and I can't see youtube vids in work, but from what I remember there's some of those type tunes in here.

Off the top of my head, his remixes are...

Wayfaring Stranger
Where is home
a bloc party remix

He also has two tunes (i think) with Four Tet. Moth and Wolf Club. Don't hold me to those names though.

That was the case when dubstep started from garage, but not anymore.
When you think of dubstep now you think of angry 13 year olds, a boring and shit kick-snare (with massive reverb) basic pattern with no variation, and a shitload of wobble.
