View Full Version : Technics SL-1210M5G
Since its introduction in 2003, many have called the SL-1210M5G the "Grand Master" of the 1200 line. In addition to the legendary Technics ruggedness and reliability, the SL-1210M5G boasts some killer one-of-a-kind features including an all-digital pitch control with a greater range, a specially constructed tone arm for improved skip resistance, an easy to adjust braking mechanism, and a black, brushed steel finish.

Just put Wildchild on those decks with her looks & tight mixing & uv got the definition for sexy! Those decks have the kind of class that any Vestax deck will never have.

IMO, these decks aren't all they're cracked up to be...
I very nearly bought a set, but settled on standard Mk5s instead. I've since used a pair at one of our local clubs (the Arc bar, in Bristol) and was convinced that I made the right choice!
For a start, they don't look half as porno in real life as they ads make them out to be. The silver's really nowt special. In fact I thought they were ruined by the el cheapo display for the pitch change (between 8% and 16%), which looks like something off a cheap belt drive.
Secondly, it's worryingly east to change pitch setting without noticing... I once played an hour's set and found the first half hour very hard going, as I couldn't 'lock on' to the correct pitch with the right hand deck. It was only when I checked the pitch setting carefully that I realised I'd been mixing in '16% mode': I must have knocked the button early on in my set...
Furthmore, the button was acutally stuck to the extent that I had to whack the deck in order to change back to 8%! When you combine this with the fact that tunes sounds crapped ptiched up beyong about 5% anyway, I reckon it makes these decks much more trouble than they're worth.
Bit of a rant I realise, but I would have been gutted if I'd shelled out almost a grand for them- I just wanted to warn off anyone else from doing the same.

These decks are over-priced, but still a good 'un.
I've got them, and use the +/- 16 more than I thought I would. Allows you to mix in more older bits that would otherwise be possible. An old skool vocals are menty to be squeaky as hell.
(If you know about the +/- 16 button, it's not a prob. Have never mis-hit it in my life.)
