recording to lap top, is it possible?

I was wondering if it is possible to record directly to my lap top. I only have a mic input, and i've heard if i connect the master out to it that it'll damage my sound card. (which is why i haven't just plugged it in and tried :) ) i use a dell inspiron, so maybe i can get to the sound card some way?

basicly,
if you record from your mic in, a: your recording will be in mono, and b: its gonna sound shit anyway...
for laptop you best off getting a external soundcard, with USB box, or even better, Firewire.
Suitable software come wiv the card, altho sounfordge is really good for that job.
So, yes, you can record wiv a laptop.. :-)
