watch some photoshop tuts, its a long learning process, i went to uni to learn it for three years and am still picking stuff up now, learning new methods and short cuts and always downloading new brushes and effects and what not.
just play with it, you learn your way around it soon enough, but to get a feel for what button does what and how to arrange your workspace , you gotta have a lesson or watch some vids

Yeah tutorials are the one. But as mentioned above, photoshops' an ever evolving learning curve of creativeness. Its almost near impossible to know everything.
We getting a load of mac minis in at work soon...they tasty bit of equipment an i get to run testing on them! WOOOP!

Its all about ILLUSTRATOR man!!! Im useless on photoshop you can do so much on illustrator
I also love InDdesign when doing magazine projects
CS5 looks good we have it at uni ive got CS4 at home
Illustrator lets you cheat you can just scan in your drawings then do live trace things and make it look good. Im still a bit useless to be honest and hate doing technical drawings but Im getting there.

"my wife wanted me to buy her a brand new wrist watch"
i said. "what do you need a watch for? there is a clock on the oven......"
He didnt dismiss my advice, and as he is a bloke he should be able to work it all himself :)
You dont need instruction manuals!
I never read instruction manuals, I think I would be able to use photoshop if I did though
