WASHINGTON — The United States has discovered nearly $1 trillion in untapped mineral deposits in Afghanistan, far beyond any previously known reserves and enough to fundamentally alter the Afghan economy and perhaps the Afghan war itself, according to senior American government officials.

Wow theres a surprise :roll: the US have known about this for a long time.....and the new Afghan "government" will gladly hand over mining rights to the big US & UK companies, what a result.

according to what i read, are these informations quite old and were in the hands of the bureau of defence since minimum 2004. stuff for conspiracionists here.

so they knew about this before? conspiracy peoples will obviously say yes... but it wouldn't surprise me if they did. makes more sense than saying 'well we were just strolling around in the desert doing some sampling and BLAM! found $1 trillion worth of minerals'

yeah, according to german media they knew at least since 2004 - but i assume they did before, as the information was gathered by the talbin regime long before the invasion and not by the us.

Even if they knew about it in '04 it has no relevance to anything dealing with the invasion that happened 3 years previous. They'd better hand over the resources to the Afghan government - make something good come out of that place... Put the potential recruits for the Taliban to work, people seem to be much less willing to fight if they have a stable income.

Less desperation = fewer zealots trying to kill people.
